Story

  • Named after the Elizabetes Street in Riga, one of the most beautiful streets in the city. The street was established in 1812 and named after Elizabeth (Елизавета Алексеевна) – the wife of the Russian Emperor Alexander I, born Princess Louise of Baden.

  • In the 1920s, Elizabetes Street became an entertainment venue with several cinemas, cabarets, cafes, and restaurants. The street was called Riga Broadway. The tradition began after the end of the World War I. To celebrate the end of the war, city residents wore their best clothes and walked along the Elizabetes Street from the one end of the street to the other and then back.

  • On the corner of Elizabetes Street, there was a restaurant Esplanade and a club Dancing Palace where a male beauty contest was held in 1925. While the second floor premises of the building were rented out to the Intimate Theater.
